The best six Lebanese students of the Romanian language courses travel to Romania

During the period of May the 27th until June the 3rd 2014, the top six Lebanese students of the Romanian language courses from Amlieh High School in Beirut will be participating in an educational, touristic, and cultural program in Romania. The students, accompanied by their Romanian language teacher, will be visiting Bucharest and will be going on trips where they will be touring cultural and touristic objectives. This project is implemented by the Embassy of Romania in Beirut, along with the Federation of Employers from Romanian Tourism, to encourage children to learn the Romanian language, as an optional foreign language, as well as to promote the Romanian culture and civilization in Lebanon.

Since October 2012, an agreement was made between the Embassy of Romania and Amlieh High School in Beirut to introduce elective Romanian language courses in the official curriculum of the high school. These courses are funded by the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR), consisting of four hours per week, and some of the books had been offered by the Romanian Language Institute.

Currently, the high school has 77 students learning the Romanian language, organized into four classes. They are young adults, motivated and interested in getting to know the Romanian culture and civilization. The Amlieh High School is therefore the first school in the Middle East to introduce Romanian language courses in its curriculum.

By the initiative of the Embassy of Romania in Beirut, the Romanian language is currently taught in Saida, in a partnership with the ICR and the French Institute; in Tripoli, at the Honorary Consulate of Romania; and also in Beirut, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Department of Policies for the Relation with Romanians Abroad and ICR, at the Cultural Center of the Sin el Fil Municipality, through courses for the children of the Romanian community, and adults as well.
