The visit of State Secretary Dan Petre to Lebanon (11 – 13 July 2012)

 

During his visit to Lebanon, State Secretary Dan Petre was received on 13 July 2012 by the Commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces, General Jean Kahwagi. The meeting provided the opportunity for an analysis of the stage and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the military and technical-military field, as well as an exchange of views on the security situation in Lebanon and the Middle East.

The State Secretary expressed appreciation for the primordial role of the Lebanese armed forces in maintaining the stability and security of Lebanon, as well as the availability of the Romanian side to help consolidate the training and endowment of the Lebanese army, particularly with respect to the fight against terrorism. The Lebanese official reiterated the support of the authorities in Beirut in case Romanian citizens are evacuated from Syria.

State Secretary Dan Petre was received on the same day by Fouad Siniora, former Prime Minister of Lebanon, leader of the Al Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc. During the talks, they approached political and security developments in Lebanon and the Middle East, as well as topical international issues.
