Romanian pupils win six medals at International Science Olympiad

Romania's junior team won a gold medal and five silver medals at the 13th edition of the International Science Olympiad, taking place in the period between 2 - 11 December in Bali (Indonesia).

According to the press release from the Ministry of Education, the top performance was managed Sergiu Petrusca, a 10th grade pupil at 'Liviu Rebreanu' National College of Bistrita, who was awarded with gold.

The silver medals were awarded to Miruna Ioana Belciu, pupil in 10th grade at 'Gheorghe Vranceanu' National College of Bacau, Alexandra Bianca Petrescu and Maria Ioana Popa, pupils in 10th grade at the National College of Iasi, Ioana Daria Radu, pupil 10th grade at 'Mihai Viteazul' National College of Bucharest, and Razvan Ovidiu Harsan, pupil in 10th grade at 'Tudor Vianu' National College of Bucharest.

Miruna Ioana Belciu has equaled her performance from the previous edition, this being her second silver medal in the competition, according to the quoted source.

The International Science Olympiad for juniors is a competition of integrative type with subjects that cover three themes: chemistry, physics, and biology. The participants have three exams: two theoretical exams (individual) and one practical - experiment/laboratory (teams composed of three students).

The 2016 edition saw the participation of 276 pupils coming from 48 countries.
