President Iohannis encourages new Japanese investment in Romania

​President Klaus Iohannis welcomed on Tuesday at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace Japan's State Minister for Foreign Affairs Nobuo Kishi to encourage new Japanese investment in Romania.

According to a Presidential Administration statement, discussed at the meeting were the latest developments in and prospects for consolidating the partnership between Romania and Japan, with emphasis on making more dynamic their high-level political contacts and their economic cooperation, as well as strengthening their cultural and interpersonal exchanges.

"President Klaus Iohannis voiced Romania's wish to strengthen the excellent partnership relations between the two countries, as well as to intensify their high-level political contacts. In his turn, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Nobuo Kishi showed that, Romania is an important partner to Japan, the strategic relevance of which has increased over the recent years, at the same time with a solid economic growth, which makes it attractive to the Japanese business environment. The Japanese high official underscored that Japan wants to extend and strengthen its cooperation with Romania," the statement shows.

At the same time, Iohannis encouraged new Japanese investment in Romania, showing that the country's economy has a high potential, including by capitalising on enhanced opportunities of economic cooperation that open up in relation with Japan following the completion of negotiations over the EU-Japan Agreement of Economic Partnership and the Agreement of Strategic Partnership at an EU-Japan Summit of 6 July.

Iohannis hailed the completion of the two agreements and underscored the support both countries grant to free trade values.

The two officials also exchanged opinions on the recent developments in the Korean Peninsula.

"President Iohannis reiterated Romania's firm position on North Korea's actions, which are violating the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council," the statement reads.
